NBC more than doubles its broadcasting deal with the Premier League for coverage in the US

Premier League broadcasting rights in the United States have risen 145% with NBC reportedly paying $2.7 billion for 2023/24 – 2027/28 broadcasting cycle. The value of the final deal was expected to be between $1-2 billion, but after intense competition between rival broadcasters, notably ESPN and CBS, the tender process was forced into a second round resulting in a record-breaking new deal.

Records have also been broken in the latest round of broadcasting rights agreed for major US sports, including an 82% increase on the current package of NFL rights to $110bn over the 2023-33 period, according to Forbes. With further deals to come, the Premier League broadcasting cycle starting in 2022 will be the first in which revenue from international deals surpasses that of domestic deals. Commentators believe there is significant further growth potential in North America and other international markets.
