Share prices of publicly listed football clubs fell -28% on average during 2021

Share prices of publicly listed football clubs fell 28% on average in 2021, with a significant drop off at the end of February affecting all clubs.

The continued impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and recent poor form saw AS Roma shares drop -61.0%, whilst Sporting CP jumped 15.2% following a successful 2020/21 campaign in which they won Portugal’s Primeira Liga, making it the only club to finish 2021 above the start of the year.

Of the rest, Manchester United performed best with a fall of -14.5% and signs of recovery in the last weeks of the year.
