Italian and English clubs loaned out the most players during 2020/21

FIFA has limits on the number of players clubs can send and take on loan internationally from the start of the 2022/23 season. The legislation is intended to reduce the practice of clubs “hoarding” player talent; FIFA will work with local governing bodies to impose similar restrictions on a domestic basis.

Within European football, Italian clubs loaned out the most players during the 2020/21 season – eight of the top ten loaning clubs are in Italy – although most loans are arranged domestically. Manchester City and Chelsea make up the other two in the top 10. Atalanta BC has the most players on loan with 60, though all but three are to other Italian clubs.
